The Juvenile Death Penalty A Case For It - 1583 Words

When I was a junior in high school, I was arrested and expelled from school. I spent the rest of my high school education jumping between online and alternative school. I went to six different schools between spring of junior year and spring of senior year, trying to find a school that would accept an expelled student but also provide challenging enough classes for me. Once my expulsion was up, I returned to public school and finished out my senior year at Lakewood High School. In May 2013, I graduated high school with a 3.5 accumulative grade point average, pulling a 4.0 grade point average from the time of my expulsion on. I walked across the same stage as the athletes, the band geeks, the book worms and the teacher’s pets. An expelled†¦show more content†¦In an interview with the police, Sigg told a detective, â€Å"the second I pulled her into my car, I knew she was dead† (Caulfield). Sigg showed no remorse for killing Jessica. Psychologist, Dr. Anna Salt er said, â€Å"The only logical explanation was sexual fantasy† (Stanley). Sigg also took his time with the murder and dismemberment. â€Å"His strangulation [of her], cutting her open, identifying each organ as he took it out, suggests extreme callousness, [He was] not hurriedly trying to get rid of it, he was actually noting the body parts as they came out† (Stanley). During trial, the judge read a statement given by Sigg to the police. The statement read, â€Å"I know that personally I am a monster. Theres no better word to describe what Ive done than evil† (Rael). Austin Sigg is a monster. He premeditated and took pleasure in his killing of Jessica Ridgeway. He tortured her, He raped her, and he dismembered her body. This is the kind of behavior that no one, especially a child, can rehabilitate from. When crimes such as these are committed, and no remorse or guilt is shown, the offender can no longer be considered a benefit to society. When judges are making sentences for an offender and considering their chance of rehabilitation, they must deliberate if the offender is a future risk to society, both socially and physically.
